Berkeley

4th Street
4th Street is in the industrial district of Berkeley. Once a row of warehouses, it now home to local crafts, great restaurants and plenty of hip shops. It is a casual place to spend the afternoon shopping, lunching or people watching. Specialty shops from stained glass to kitchen essentials to plush couches, 4th Street provides a quick escape off of Highway 80 to a shopper's haven.
Elmwood
The Elmwood District is toward the northern end of College Avenue. With its own theatre, a bunch of marvelous eateries, clothing stores and coffee shops, the vibe is unquestionably laid-back. Students and locals alike flock to Elmwood for a comfortable meal, or simply to walk the dog with a coffee.
North Shattuck
Also known as the "Gourmet Ghetto," North Shattuck Street is a lively area for its relatively compact size. It has flourished from a corner, to a couple of blocks of spectacular food, and unique woman's clothing boutiques, all the while maintaining the Berkeley heart and soul. You'll find folks sitting in the Shattuck's median as overflow space from the Cheese Board to enjoy live jazz and a pizza.
Solano Avenue
This 1.25 mile stretch spans two cities, Albany and Berkeley. It is home to 75 restaurants and 150 shops. The neighborhood is wonderful to walk. It is a safe, tree-lined street with plenty to tempt and much fare to sample and parking is ample. There are theatres at both ends of the street and families abound.
Telegraph/UC Campus
You can liken Telegraph Avenue to that of Greenwich Village in New York or Haight Street in San Francisco, each speaks volumes simply upon the utterance of their name. Always a bustle with an eclectic crowd, from street performers, to local vendors, to the eccentric shoppers that line its street, Telegraph is sure to take you over the top. The North end of the street leads directly into the University of California's Sproul Plaza.
